About HLR
In May, 2018, I completed my MS in Education, Teacher Leadership, at Dominican University of California. The study focused on eliciting student voice in regard to school climate, belonging, racial identity, and culturally responsive teaching to glean a greater understanding of the academic achievement gap. Findings indicated a significant value of culturally responsive teaching, belonging, and school climate to all students.
I received my Preliminary Teaching Credentials in both English and Spanish in 2016, and student taught at San Marin High School in Novato for the 2015-2016 school year before joining the staff at Tamalpais High School as a Spanish teacher. I have gained extensive experience in the practical application and day-to-day success of the theories, pedagogy, and research-based evidence that support my teaching philosophy. Moreover, I have grown to love the dynamic challenge of a profession where there is always something more to learn, a new and better strategy to employ, and the opportunity to share my love of language and literature with my students.
I graduated with a BA in Spanish and English literature from the University of California San Diego where I was fortunate to develop an advanced understanding of academic reading, writing, speaking, listening, and analysis in both languages. After college I discovered my love for education was not limited to my own learning, but became even more meaningful when applied to helping young minds grow. I worked as a TA at an online university, as an educational programming intern at 826 Valencia, as a creative writing instructor, and as a one-on-one academic tutor before deciding to pursue a teaching career.
